20,000 word target achieved

I’m now at 20,119 words towards my speculative fiction novel that is tentatively named, ‘Rather a Stray Dog than Us’ (the title will definitely be changed).

I’m just about to start the second of three sections, where the meat of the story will take place. I’ve been typing at least 1000 words a day for 15/16 days. It feels like I’m getting a bit more into the head of my main character, Rhian Evans, due to consistency.

I’m a bit worried that the main part of the story is going to come up short. I’ve got another 20 chapters to write that need to be a minimum average of 3000 words each. That’s 2 writing sessions a chapter and so far I’ve only been writing 2000 words per chapter. I really hope I can write more. I was reading that underwriting can be a symptom of under ‘showing’ not telling. So if I do under deliver, hopefully there’s scope for padding it out in a positive sense.

It’s been cold and wet here for weeks so I’m going to go and watch some Youtube videos on writing in bed, all warm and cozy. I like hearing about how others coped with their dreaded first drafts. Also about those who have got published- which is a bit of wish fulfilment for me.

I’ll next update the blog when I hit 30,000 words (so about 7 days time) when I’ll be officially a third of the way through. Unless I have any news from the bursaries in the meantime. Fingers crossed!

Are you writing anything? If so, where are you in your writing? I’d love to know.
