I’m reporting back on the progress of my novel writing endeavours…As of this morning, I’ve written just over 7000 words in 6 days. Which I’m fairly pleased about. This is the same point that I bailed out last time due to a crisis of considering my whole concept to be boring.
My aim is to get to 10,000 words by Sunday morning. As I’ve mentioned before, there are 2 scholarships/bursaries I’m applying for. One of which requires the first 1500 words from 10,000 completed of your novel. The other requires the first 3000 words from your novel. The deadlines are early/mid-February.
My plan is to write until this weekend then spend the next week editing and generally polishing my first 3000 words. I’ll submit to both opportunities thereafter and get stuck back in to writing my novel while I wait to hear.
I’m excited by the possibility of winning but there could be hundreds of entrants and I’d consider myself a beginner to intermediate but not an intermediate yet. And that’s going to really hinder me. I fit the criteria for the awards completely in terms both financial and from being from an under-privileged background. It will, however, ultimately come down to my writing sample. Yet some of the key features of my present writing life- the lack of community and peer feedback- are exactly the things I need to pull up my writing level in order to get on the course to get community and peer support. It’s sort of a vicious cycle. So we’ll see. I’m crossing every finger and toe!
